Is Your Business Compliant Certified?

By Warren Franklin

Most of you know me as a local radio broadcaster and emcee of events around the area.  I’ve worked in this industry for over 30 years and continue to work at 1430 KYKN.

What many of you don’t know is I have another side of my life.  Over the past five years I have slowly been building a business protecting individuals, families, and businesses against cybercrime and identity theft.  Over the past five years both cybercrime and identity theft have become the two fastest growing crimes in the world.

While most of us think about identity theft impacting individuals and families, you may be surprised to learn that small and mid-sized businesses are prime targets of these thieves.  Cybercriminals target small and mid-sized businesses because they know they don’t have the time or money to protect against this new kind of crime.

Most every business has account lists and proprietary customer and employee information.  This information may include billing information including credit card numbers, e-mail addresses, home address, phone numbers, and more.  This is prized information for criminals who can either sell this information or use it for their own evil ways

.Identity theft from small and mid-sized businesses has become so prevalent that the Federal Government, Payment Card Industry and state governments have set strict standards businesses must comply or face huge fines.

business, every business must meet minimum standards of information security, or face steep fines, penalties and even civil action against them in the event customer or employee information is leaked, lost or stolen.  Penalties and fines could be as high as $100,000 for each violation with owners and officers personally liable up to $10,000 per violation and face severe civil and criminal penalties for fraud and negligence, including fines and even imprisonment.

The problem is each of the Information security laws and regulations are different, but all address the implementation of best practices and various requirements for protecting customer information, including technical, physical and administrative safeguards.

This makes it confusing for most small and mid-sized businesses to know for sure whether they are compliant or not.  Frankly, most businesses don’t know what they have to do to be compliant and stay that way.

There is a brand new solution coming to the market.  It is called InfoSafe.  InfoSafe by Invisus is the only full coverage program that works with small and mid-sized business to make sure they comply with even the strictest of requirements and regulations both on the technical and administrative side.  It is the best solution to a tough situation businesses are finding themselves.
